Sunday Kung Fu!

In our home the Sabbath day is a special day being the Lord's day and we try to teach this to our children. We encourage them to choose activities which help them grow closer to their families and to Jesus Christ. The following conversation was over heard today.
Joseph - "Do you want to play Kung Fu?"
Anna-Maria - "Yes, but everyone in the Kung Fu class has to be in the true church because today is           Sunday."

Today was Lily's blessing - performed by her Daddy and assisted by Grandpa and Uncle David (Brother Morris). Lily is such a cutie. Tane left us again for 3 more weeks of training in the territorials in Waiouru. I think he is in for another 3 weeks of PAIN!! Better him than me... motherhood is certainly makes me tired and grumpy at times but is not associated with that level of PAIN.

Tane took the boys for a hike up to the Pinnacles. It took them 5 hours to get up to the hut. The boys were so proud of themselves to have made it... and their Dad was even prouder of them. They had a great father-son outing and Tane had lots of opportunities to teach them skills and tips he learnt during his army training.
They slept at the camp that night and walked down the following day. They were so wasted the following day, but they really loved it. Joshua keeps saying how much he is going to miss his Dad and I think it is mostly because of the great bonding time they had together.

Awards and bombs

Anna-Maria is at the stage where she is taking everything in and asking lots of questions ...
what does accurate mean?
 what does mercy mean?
what does appreciate mean?

In family scripture reading we were discussing Matthew 16:27

For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

We talked about how we will be rewarded when Jesus comes again if we choose the right.

The next day, Anna-Maria said "I can't wait till Jesus comes so I can get my award".

Today I was singing the word "Beautiful Zion built above."

Anna-Maria asks "Why did Zion build a bomb?"

Funny stuff our kids say

Anna-Maria: What is that smell?
Me: Someone is smoking.
Anna-Maria: We don't smoke do we
Mum: No
Anna-Maria: It makes your lungs black
Mum: Thats right.
Anna-Maria:: We have pink lungs don't we mum.
Mum: Yes
Anna-Maria:: What colour lungs do boys have?

Mum: "Oh no do not look in the margarine container!"
Joseph: "Come on let me look. I'm a man."
- so he looks.
Joseph to mum: "You're so in trouble!..."
That's the tub of margarine after sitting on the stove while the roast was cooking.

I was singing a church song which goes like this: "and so my needs are great"
Anna-Maria said "Our knees aren't grey are they?"
I cracked up then asked her "who has grey knees?"
Anna-Maria: "Nobody!" (as if that was such a silly question).

The things kids say!

Anna-Maria on carparks - "park-ups"
____

Joseph on a lost soccer boot we found in the park - "Some people have too many soccer boots so they leave them at the park. They are nutters!"
_____

Joseph: "Look at the Bulls!"
Mum: "They are cows not bulls. The girl ones are cows..."
Joseph: "... and the boy ones are bulls and they have to fall in love with the cows."
______

Joseph to Dad: "I will even love you when you're old and lose your marbles."
______

Recently we borrowed a DVD from a friend which had all the songs from Les Miserables. We all have loved watching it and we all have got certain songs ingrained in our heads. This morning I was singing "One more day to revolution, we will cut the fat ones down" and Anna-Maria gave an unsolicited response -  "Daddy is the fattest one." :) Kids can be so straight up sometimes.
_______

At church Joseph pointed to a senior missionary couple and asked "why are some elders called the elderly?"
I just cracked up laughing! :)

Drive-in Movie Night

We have just been to a really cool movie night with the kids. They had been so excited about it all day.... especially Joseph. Every 15 minutes he would demand everyone get in the car or would be exclaiming how we have missed the activity. All the kids took a cardboard box and decorate it like a car, then 'drive-in' to watch the movie. They had a really awesome time. The kids all put 'stereos' (cracker boxes) in their cars.

Today Anna-Maria asked me to attach her 'compost' to her belt... she meant 'compass'.

Earlier this morning we did our weekly ritual of going to the library after the boys rugby games. We are always the last to leave (they close up at 1pm) and I am sure we take the most books... Today we managed to take out 65. I think we get our council rates worth - thats over 3,000 books a year - which would cost a fortune and besides, in our small place we would have no place to keep them. It is bit of a mission to get them all to the car but none of the kids are willing to leave any behind. We take out so many books we have to reserve a corner of the lounge as the library book corner and keep all the books together in a book. Joshua's favourite book of the week is a book about pranks...so watch this space if he tries to start pranking us... He had a very mischievous look on his face as he was checking that one out.  :)

Kids say the cutest things!

This morning during scripture reading, I asked the kids who will judge us at the last day. Joesph answered 'the judger'. Cute.

Joshua had a tooth pulled out recently by the school dental nurse. Josh asked the nurse if she was going to knock him out, and she asked him if did he want to be knocked out with a brick. He said "no laughing gas". She told him that would make him talk like Donald Duck, but Josh (quick on his feet) replied "No helium makes you talk like Donald Duck, laughing gas puts you to sleep."
When he had a mouth full of cylindrical cotton rolls afterwards he exclaimed to the nurse "I think I look like Winston Churchill!"
